Why Strength Train?
You may have heard the common myth that lifting weights makes you “bulk up.” It doesn’t — in fact, it can actually help you lose well and slim down. Beyond the purely physical, lifting weights can improve your bone health and increase your metabolism just to name a couple of benefits.
And did you know? Research suggests weight training can result in up to 72 hours of calorie-burning post-exercise. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Just know that lifting weights isn’t a magic ticket to weight loss: You must sustain a calorie deficit over time, so if you’re lifting every day but still eating more calories than you burn, you won’t see the progress you want.
What Are Macros?
Macros are not a fad diet or trend, but a way of better understanding the mix of macronutrients (macros being protein, carbohydrates, and fat) and total calories that are right for you and your goals.
Protein helps you grow, repair injuries, build muscle and fend off infections, to name a few functions. Proteins are made of amino acids, which are the building blocks of many structures in your body.
We all know carbs. Carbs get a bad rap. But Carbs aren’t bad! Carbohydrates give you quick energy. Complex carbohydrates — like starchy vegetables and whole grains — also promote digestive health because they’re high in dietary fiber.
Fats are really important for your health! Dietary fat is required for your body to do its many jobs. You need fat to absorb the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K), to insulate your body during cold weather and to go long periods of time without eating.
